What is public Montessori?

 

Each of the Hartford programs enrolls children between the ages of three and twelve in three distinct, mixed-age environments. The Primary rooms serve children ages three through six. The Lower Elementary rooms serve children ages six through nine and the Upper Elementary rooms serve children ages nine through twelve. These programs offer fully implemented Montessori, key elements of which include:Full three-year cycles, beginning at age 3Three-hour, uninterrupted work periods at all levels, with minimal interruptions for co-curricular classesMinimal use of supplementary material at the Primary (ages 3-6) levelTrained Montessori teachers (called "guides") in every classroomA full compliment of Montessori materials in all classroomsMontessori trained/experienced leadershipThis collection of videos offers a view inside a fully implemented Montessori environment, with each video focusing on a pillar of Montessori education. Taken as a whole, these concepts distinguish Montessori from other approaches to education.
